Research on the Use of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) Maggot as an Alternative Source of Protein in Animal Feed Formulation

The Edo State Ministry of Digital Economy, Science and Technology (MDEST) is conducting research on the use of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggot as an alternative source of protein in animal feed formulation. This project is being carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the Nigeria Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR).

Development of Edo State Policy on Science, Technology, and Innovation

Domestication of the National Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Roadmap 2030

The Edo State Ministry of Digital Economy, Science and Technology (MDEST) is working on a key project to domesticate the adaptation of the National Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Roadmap 2030. This initiative, led by the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (FMSTI), aims to align the state’s STI priorities with the national roadmap for enhanced development.

Ministry of science and technology (MST) collaborated with grace agbonlahor foundation(GAP) on empowering women and young girls in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics(STEM) for innovation and development in the state.

Organized a One-month Data Analysis training for young girls

To bridge the gender gap in ICT, the administration of Senator Monday Okpebholo, through the Ministry of Science and Technology initiated a one-month free intensive training for 100 girls in Artificial intelligence, robotics and coding, gaming, data analysis, in July 2025. The programme was delivered in collaboration with PiP Community and Edo State ICTA

Local fabricators & innovators showcase Made-in-Edo products

In its first year, the administration launched a Local Innovators & Fabricators Showcase, bringing together home-grown inventors from across Edo State to display innovations such as: Locally fabricated Keke NAPEP (tricycle), Mini bus prototypes, Electric vehicle, Smart cloth line, Surveillance drones, Electric mower, robot planter and harvester, and other farming and maintenance machinery.

Establishment of Digital Learning Centre:

The Ministry of Science and Technology partnered with NITDA to establish a Digital Learning Centre in Ujabhole Secondary School Irrua in Edo Central. The centre is equipped with 15 Computers, Multipurpose Printer, Internet Connectivity, Smart Board, and solar power inverter.

Distribution of science laboratory equipment to public schools

Under the leadership of Senator Monday Okpebholo, the Executive Governor of Edo State through the Ministry of Science and Technology (MST) initiated a major rollout of science equipment to over twenty public secondary schools across Edo State. This intervention included laboratory materials for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology e.g. Compound microscopes, chemicals, reagents, lab glassware, Human skeletons specimen, etc.

Edo State Cybersecurity Summit — “Online Safety: Our Collective Responsibility”

 

Edo State took a decisive step toward making its digital transformation safe and inclusive by partnering with Summit Systems to convene a statewide Cybersecurity Summit in Benin City. The summit — publicly promoted as Edo Cybersecurity Summit 2025 — was held at the John Odigie-Oyegun Public Service Academy on 22 July 2025 and was framed around the theme “Online Safety: Our Collective Responsibility.” The event brought together government officials, private sector specialists, civil-society actors and technology practitioners to share practical guidance on cyber hygiene, threat awareness, and institutional approaches to protect citizens and public services. 

 

The summit featured awareness sessions, technical briefings and multi-stakeholder panels, providing a platform to align policy, training and incident-response expectations across MDAs, schools, businesses and community groups. This creates longer-term benefits such as clearer reporting channels for cyber incidents for civil servants and youth.
